About Me

Who me? Like this?! In front of all these people?!!

Okay I know what you’re probably thinking, “How in the world did I manage to stumble upon the website of an incredibly talented, charming, and particularly adorable boy-next-door type tenor?!” Well, no matter how you got here, I’m glad you did!

My name is Matthew McCoy and I’m a singer, actor, and dancer hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area. And like so many others in this business, after an unsuccessful attempt at being an athlete from ages 6-10, I wound up being signed up for community theater! I made my debut in the ensemble of a production of Once Upon a Mattress and since then the world has been a fraction more endearingly annoying!

There are two things I love the most in this world: Musical theatre and Taylor Swift. And since I can’t get a degree in being in Taylor’s Top 0.001% of Spotify listeners, my passion led me to getting my BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Southern California. It was here that I was able to work with some incredible people - professors like Kate Burton, Michele Shay, and Jenni Barber - who really helped shape my artistry and perspective of any material that I get the privilege of working on.

In my time as a performer, I have had the pleasure of working on so much incredible material. Before college, I was able to be in shows like RENT (Mark), Les Miserablés (Marius), Spring Awakening (Melchior), and Beauty and the Beast (Beast). In my time at USC, I was fortunate enough to be in shows like A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Puck), Spring Awakening [again] (as Moritz this time!), A Chorus Line (Don), and Into the Woods (Jack).

More recently, I had the incredible opportunity of participating in my first professional job, as an offstage swing in Pasadena Playhouse’s recent re-mounting of the 2017 revival of Sunday in the Park with George, directed by Sarna LaPine.

As for now, having just graduated, I am currently in the process of moving across the country to NYC! Alongside this, I’m currently taking the steps to become a bartender, and gain fluency in American Sign Language - the latter of which I hope to combine with my career as a performer.

Well, well, well… if you made it all the way here I just have one question - why are you so obsessed with me?! I’m just kidding, I prefer the mystery of not knowing ;) Thank you for indulging in my foolishness, but in all seriousness, I appreciate you taking the time to read this. Please feel free to reach out on any of my socials (found at the bottom of any page here, or on the Contact page), as I’m always looking to connect with other artists and collaborate with like-minded individuals!
